The Misrepresentation of Free Speech Through Fried Chicken Sandwiches

Its important to point out that no one ever said Dan Cathy cannot believe whatever he wants. The boycott of Chick-Fil-A is not just a response to his comments on the radio. As equalitymatter.org points out, Chick-Fil-A uses its corporate profits to fund anti-gay legislation and groups that provide gay conversion therapy. That is the sticking point, and that is why we liberals are choosing to vote with our dollars (an exercise of free speech). Equalitymatters.org also publicly stated on NPR two days ago that they disagree with mayors threatening to not allow Chick-Fil-A into their cities. They agree that businesses have a right to open wherever they want and that it is up to the customers to decide if they succeed or fail. So to those consumers who lined up to buy Chick-Fil-A to supports Dan Cathy’s right to free speech, I’m sorry but you’ve wasted your time. At least the ones who came to support “traditional marriage”, as they refer to it, didn’t distort the narrative.

Anyway. I believe it was Andrew Jackson who said, “When the political discourse in this country is reduced to fried chicken sandwiches, our Nation is doomed.”
